3. Take a look at St. Clair Colleges website. In relation to visuals, what would you propose to St. Clair College to improve/enhance this new website to effectively market to potential incoming local domestic students. Please provide three (3) recommendations and justify your answer with detailed reasoning. (9 Marks)
Enhanced Navigation for program information -> The website could benefit by using a interactive display of program offerings located right on the homepage. This will be in the form of a carousel that is placed on the right side of the current banner area where “start HERE” is. This will either highlight programs that are commonly searched or various popular programs with quick facts like, duration, key benefits, career outcomes, and the overall background banner image of the dog should change with the displayed information to match. Furthermore, As we can see in the area that says “start HERE” there is a arrow beside it that is non-interactive currently, we should slide the whole section up and allow the arrow to be interactive so we can expand and shrink the section for full-time programs, continuing education and international student, and we should also not use HERE instead change it to “Start Here” this will keep it more professional and visually less disturbing. **The image provided is a vision for the area.**
Update visual design for engagement -> the current visual design of the website could be modernized to better appeal to the new targeted audience, this can be done by changing the visual elements to a round/soft shapes this can help to create a more friendly and welcoming atmosphere another design element that can be done would be to have a static background of the St. Clair logo and the elements on the website move but the background still, further more in the middle section of the website there is a carousel of the news, replace this with a program search tool that can preview options as well. Then the whole information/news/Facebook section should be removed and replaced with 4 interactive elements that will include pictures in the boxes and it will have rounded edges these will have “total # of programs offered”, “# of advanced programs”, “modern facility”, “scholarship & rewards” alongside these on the bottom of each boxes will have a Explore section that will redirect to each of these sections and provide additional information.
Virtual tour enhancement -> Instead of having the virtual tour and apply on a small area on the very top of the page we should move it down to replace where the student associations used to be and have 2 large rounded box elements with the left being virtual tour and the right being apply, we should also include autoplay videos in the background of the elements to autoplay videos that is a special curation of campus, state of the art facilities and students collaborating in common areas. This preview entices visitors to check out the full virtual tour and gain a more engaging experience of the campus environment, by placing the apply button right next to the tour the idea is to apply right after and having it conveniently there, since most people in the world read left to right it almost is second nature to read and operate daily behaviour from left to right so this design has a psychological element to it.
